2015 Peter Stevens SAMX Championship Grand Finale to Play Out This Weekend

After 4 action packed rounds of racing, over 250 riders will head to the newly revamped circuit with all 16 state championship titles up for grabs across both the junior and senior classes.

Saturday will see over 130 of South Australia’s fastest juniors take to the track, with riders aged from 4 years of age all the way up to sixteen years of age battling for glory.

On Sunday, Daniel Banks will lead the Expert MX1 class into action, while Mitchell Norris will do likewise in the MX2 Expert class. Other racing includes the Clubman, Intermediate, Women and Veteran classes.

As mentioned, the MRA Gillman track is located just 15 kilometres from Adelaide City Centre has undergone some big changes in recent months with an all new track ready to treat both riders and spectators alike this weekend.

The club spent close to two months not only building an all new track, but extending the entire length of the track by over a third, resulting in lap times for the State’s best riders being lifted from just under 1 minute and 30 seconds per lap to well over 2 minutes per lap.

“As most people know we have done a bit of work down at the track.” MRA Club president Shane Metcalfe explained. “We have redesigned the whole track, making it a bit more exciting and a lot longer in the process.

“It was a two month process getting it all up to scratch, a lot of man hours and a lot of help went into it. It has been pretty awesome, the amount of support we have had from a few of the members and a few people and companies from outside of the club.

“So far all the feedback on the new track has been positive and there really have not been any complaints,” Metcalfe added. ‘Everyone seems to like it and the riders seem to be pretty pumped with the length of the track.’

Practice will get underway from 8.30am on both days with racing to commence at the conclusion of practice.

The Track is located on Wilkins Road, Gillman. Spectator entry is $5 with children under the age of 12 free.
