It was history in the making, as the club held the first ever South Australian Dirt Track State Championships under lights at their Day Road venue, Victor Harbor. Competitors traveled from Victoria, New South Wales and all around South Australia to compete and more than 600 spectators were present to cheer them on and enjoy the night time action.
The initiative by the Mud ‘N’ Tars Motorcycle Club was a boom for the region and the president Simon Pitman could not be prouder on how the event was held.
“It was a special night and the feedback has been mostly positive. We thank the community for its support and the City of Victor Harbor,” Mr Pitman said “The curfew was 10pm to show respect for residents, so we made sure we were finished by 9.30pm.”
12 portable light towers were brought in for the event, and when the sun went down the ‘home’ of dirt track racing in SA was a sight to remember!
Fellow Mud ‘N’ Tars member, Sam Hutchesson agreed, “We achieved something new and quite special at the Mud'n'Tars last weekend. For the first time in the clubs 30+ year history we ran dirt track under lights.
We chose to jump straight in the deep end and light up the SA Dirt Track Championships with a focus on rejuvenating dirt track in SA and creating a draw card for interstate competitors.’
“As night fell on race day the atmosphere was awesome, heaps of spectators and some unreal racing across the board. The meeting went perfectly to plan thanks to our well organised officials and track crew.” Added Sam, “A great end to the season and time for a well earned break. This was a huge achievement for the club. Bloody awesome!”
A huge congratulations to the Mud N Tars MCC for a brilliant job, looking forward to the next event under lights at Days Road already!
